Kevin works in Telstra’s Finance team as Collections Manager, managing a team of five. He has worked for Telstra for almost 10 years. With part of his team based in Cambridge and part in London, Kevin divides his time between the Cambridge Hosting Centre and Tabernacle Street. He oversees the whole debt collection process - ensuring that invoices are settled within contracted terms - and is responsible for the management of customers’ credit limits.
A typical day for Kevin involves managing his staff to ensure the business of credit monitoring and the collections process is running smoothly. He believes that the secret to keeping his Days Sales Outstanding (DSO) figure low lies in developing close relationships with customers and having strict collection procedures in place. (With current DSO performance at an average of just 27 days, Kevin’s team are more than 18 days under the industry average). He believes his team’s flexibility and stability are its key strengths.
Kevin says the most enjoyable parts of his role are the variety, that every day brings new challenges and also the buzz of striving to beat a target at month-end.
