It replaced its existing point-to-point connections with a Telstra International IP Virtual Private Network (VPN), and its long-standing network stability problems simply disappeared over night.
The Challenge
Family Mosaic provides good quality, affordable homes and housing services to over 45,000 people in communities across London and Essex. Formed from the merger of two large, established housing associations, the new organisation soon started to experience a succession of network stability issues.
This was a big concern for the company. Strong network availability is a crucial business requirement for Family Mosaic, as it predominantly operates a thin client environment. If users cannot connect to the central server, they cannot access either the applications or the data that are essential for them to do their jobs.
Network stability wasn’t the only issue that Family Mosaic was concerned about. The company also needed to move its data centre and it was struggling to find an alternative space within its main office that was suitable.
The Solution
After a competitive evaluation of multiple telecommunications services, Family Mosaic decided to replace its existing point-to-point connections with a Telstra IP Virtual Private Network (VPN). Telstra worked with Family Mosaic to help it calculate the network capacity required and determine the most cost effective access technologies for each site. Telstra then quickly set up the IP VPN to connect Family Mosaic’s five main sites with different bandwidth allocations, according to the specific requirements of each office. To solve its data centre relocation dilemma, Family Mosaic decided to take advantage of Telstra’s co-location service and outsource the hosting of its core application and data servers. It leased more than adequate capacity for the company today at Telstra’s data centre with room to expand in the future.
